Lake
District Walking Tour May 2008
One to four days easy to moderate walking in and around the Lake
District visiting areas where the delights of nature in Spring
can be enjoyed at the same time as the beauty of the mountains.

Monday 19th May 2008:
Latterbarrow and Whitbarrow
We start by walking around Latterbarrow nature reserve
which has a wide range of interesting flora. Our second walk is over
Whitbarrow with fine examples of limestone pavement, wild flowers and bird life.
Grade: - Easy to Moderate
Length: - 12 km (7.5 miles)
Ascent: - 350 metres (1,140 feet)
Tuesday 20th May 2008:
Loughrigg and Elterwater
From Ambleside we gently climb over Loughrigg
to the idyllic setting of Loughrigg Tarn. We then continue to Elterwater,
walk along Loughrigg Terrace with views over Grasmere (William Wordsworth's
home for many years) before returning to Ambleside.

Length: - 12.5 km (8 miles)
Ascent: - 430 metres (1,400 feet)
Wednesday 21st May 2008:
Tarn Hows and Little Langdale
We start by walking around Tarn Hows, looking for woodland birds.
We then follow a path to Little Langdale and Slater's Bridge, climbing over Holme Fell
before ending back at Tarn Hows.
Grade: - Easy to Moderate
Length: - 12 km (7.5 miles)
Ascent: - 500 metres (1,625 feet)
Thursday 22nd May 2008:
Silverdale Nature Reserves
Starting at Leighton Moss RSPB reserve, we continue through
Gait Barrows limestone pavement nature reserve, looking for flora and butterflies.
We then pass through Silverdale before following the Lancashire Coastal Way back to
Leighton Moss.
Grade: - Easy to Moderate
Length: - 13 km (8 miles)
Ascent: - 200 metres (650 feet)
